Bee Hives

Bee Hives and Almond Orchards: My hive relies heavily on almonds. Not only do the orchards provide the first natural food source each spring, but the pollen from the orchard happens to be very nutritious (and delicious) for us bees. The pollen from almond orchards contain all ten of the essential amino acids that our diets require! It is a win for both the orchard and us bees because we leave the orchard stronger when we are done. When growers use pollinator friendly crop protection, we can feel safe to do our jobs as pollinators and maintain happy bee hives. My sisters and I know that after the pollination of almonds is complete, the almond grower can continue to grow a healthy and safe crop, while Joe takes us to another location so we can begin pollinating other crops and making honey.

Pollinator friendly pest management is critical for growers to take care of the environment, the land, and maintaining a healthy ecosystem. Healthier hives mean healthier crops, which leads to sustainable farming. Since 2013, almond farmers have planted 41.2k acres of bee pastures in partnership with bee nonprofit Project Apis m.
